IBM Software Center of Excellence (IBM CoE) inaugurated at SAINTGITS
SAINTGITS joins the elite few Engineering colleges in our country by being chosen by IBM to set up the IBM Software Center of Excellence (IBM CoE). The IBM CoE at Saintgits was inaugurated by Mr.Anil Menon, Vice President, Channels, ISV and Developer relations, IBM Software Group, on 30/07/2010. He also exchanged the signed MoU documents with Mr.Thomas.T.John, Director, SAINTGITS Group.
IBM CoE aims at creating a platform for the development of software skills among students and also gives them the opportunity to acquire new skill sets around IBM software as well as help them develop world-class business solutions. In addition to extending high-quality education on emerging technologies through this CoE set up in the Department of CSE & MCA, IBM also plans to bring its Global Entrepreneurship Initiative (GEI). This initiative helps start-ups capture new business opportunities by providing access to technology resources from IBM.
Apart from providing training, certification and software which is free of charge to the college, IBM plans to take the CoE to the next logical level of converting it into an Incubation Center, to bolster software skills and ensure industry-ready professionals. Under this concept, the company aims to work towards creating a bridge between the industry and academia by creating a programme where industry can use the CoE set up and the certified resources in the college to create innovative software projects and proof of concepts.
The CoE is an outgrowth of IBM's Academic Initiative which covers select colleges and universities around the world. Under the initiative, IBM partners closely with the local government and academia to create an enabling environment by allowing access to IBM software, course material, training and curriculum development. The CoE at SAINTGITS have already completed the DB2 training for the final year students of their CSE and MCA courses. | |
