Mechanical Engineering Department of Saintgits College of Engineering is having double intake of students. Our strength is highly qualified and devoted .Major activities of department during the academic year 2009-10 are as follows:
- The Annual Technical Fest was organized on 23rd September 2009 and the Inaugural Function was presided by Mr. K Vijayan, Chief Mechanical Engineer [Rtd], Travancore Cochin Chemicals. The fest has provided an excellent opportunity for the professional students from the length & breadth of Kerala to showcase their talents in Paper presentation, Best Manager, Network Gaming, Auto Quiz & Project Presentation. Besides, MECHNIUUS was flavoured with Motor Show, Aero Show and Exhibition of Vintage & New Generation Cars. ISRO exhibition & presentation on DRDO for the school students has aided the efforts of the Mechanical Engineering Department ie to create a longing for the professional course in the upcoming generation.
- Student Chapter for Society of Automobile Engineers has been inaugurated by S Sivakumar DGM, Design Studio, Royal Enfield, Chennai on 3rd February 2010.
- Technical Talk on INDUSTRIAL DESIGN was delivered by S Sivakumar for the SAE members on 3rd February for duration of 90 minutes.
- Inter-Batch Group Discussion Competition was conducted for the Second, Third & Final year students and the winners were acknowledged with a Cash prize.
- Industrial Visit-Mechanical Engineering students have visited Malabar Cements Ltd, Palakkad, HAL Bangalore, BOSCH Ltd, Harrison Malayalam Ltd & FACT Ernakulam during 2009-2010.
- Alumni Interaction-2002, 2003 & 2004 Batch students have interacted with the current students and thus created awareness among the students regarding the importance of Basic Concepts, Seminar, Project, and Communication & Soft Skills were exchanged during the interaction. The interacted ALUMNI were placed in reputed companies like Reliance, L & T Infotech & ONGC.
- Inter-Batch Seminar-Third Year students had engaged a session for the Second Year students during the Departmental hour, and the same was utilized for exchanging information regarding the companies they had visited for Industrial Training. Apart from imparting knowledge, the session was arranged with an intention to horne the communication & soft skills of the respective students.
- Seminar-Seminar on Importance of Accreditation was conducted for the final year students and the session was arranged during the Departmental Hour.
- ADD ON course on SOLID WORKS is being provided for Third year students for a duration of 30 Hours during their sixth semester. The sessions are engaged by the Faculty members from the department itself. Objective of the course is to enable the students to do model analysis and hence use similar softwares.
- Project Exhibition-All the 15 In House projects will be exhibited on 31st March 2010.The best project will be appreciated with a cash prize.
- Faculty Development Programme -We have one Faculty Development Programme in every month of semester. FDP's conducted so far are:

- Quality of a Teacher & Time Management
- Multi Body Systems
- Accreditation procedures
- Roll of Automation in current trends
- Seminar- HYPERWORKS, advanced software for Finite Element Meshing, Finite Element Analysis, Kinematic Analysis, MBD Analysis etc was introduced for faculty members by ALTAIR ENGINEERING, Bangalore.
