About the Workshop

The workshop is primarily intended for PG students in Engineering design and interested faculty members. Applications from highly motivated B.Tech students will also be considered. The main objective of the workshop is to develop conceptual basics and mathematical tools needed to fully comprehend recent research trends In Engineering Design and to do original research in this area In the last decade or so a worrying trend has developed which gives undue importance to the production of publishable results which has resulted in the lowering of the overall quality of research. Another adverse effect has been the neglect of good training in conceptual and mathematical apparatus. This workshop is a humble effort to go back to the tradition of rigorous conceptual training which shall provides us with the courage and conviction to tackle original problems and to produce enduring work. Albert Einstein's words should serve as an eye opener for us in this regard: "I have little patience with scientists who take a board of wood, look for its thinnest part, and drill a great number of holes where drilling is easy".
